Vegetable karela or bitter gourd or hairy mordica helps lower blood sugar. Karela is pungent and bitter in taste, pungent in the post-digestive effect and hot in potency. It relieves kapha and pitta doshas. It stirs up agni, relieves fever and works well as an anti-dermatosis. Amalaki has a sour taste and post-digestive effect and has a hot potency.
